Suspect in IUP shots fired incident wanted to be killed by police

UPDATE |

State police have identified the suspect in Sunday's officer-involved incident on the campus of Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Troopers say 19-year-old Cameron Raubaugh reportedly called 911 to report a robbery in the parking lot of the campus' George P. Miller Stadium.

According to the affidavit, when police arrived on scene, the responding officer encountered a masked suspect who was wielding a knife.

Police say the suspect allegedly charged at the officer, resulting in the officer firing one round from his gun.

Investigators say the suspect then knocked the officer to the ground and fled the scene.

Authorities say a responding state trooper later captured the suspect, who was identified as Raubaugh.

Police say Raubaugh admitted to making the false 911 call because he was "depressed" and wanted to be killed by police.

Troopers say Raubaugh claimed that he did not want to harm the officer in any way.

According to online court records, Raubaugh was arraigned Monday morning on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault and false reports.

He is being held at the Indiana County Jail and his bail was denied, citing a need for him to undergo a mental health evaluation.
